Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric will stay in the club until his current contract expires in the summer of 2021, according to a report published on AS early this Thursday. Modric was considering his departure from Real Madrid in 2020 had his role not been relevant this season, but he’s been happy both with his minutes played and the quality of his performances, per that same report.
Modric has definitely entered his decline as a player and that’s why Real Madrid are not willing to offer him a new contract yet. However, he’s still a valuable player for coach Zinedine Zidane and his performances improved during the last few games of the season.
Los Blancos must find a long term replacement for Modric though, whether that’s Valverde, Odegaard or a new signing remains to be seen. Zidane will need to give the Croatian midfielder more rest next season and that’s why Modric could likely come off the bench more often than not, given that the midfield of Casemiro, Kroos and the Croatian player has struggled a lot this season.
