Real Madrid wonder kid Martin Odegaard will not make his return to the club in the upcoming transfer window if midfielder Luka Modric stays in the club, something which would obviously have a huge impact on Odegaard’s potential minutes. That’s what a report published today on MARCA suggests.
Odegaard has always been keen on staying with Real Sociedad for another season, quite possibly because he knows that it might be tough for him to earn relevant minutes over a veteran like Luka Modric. While the Croatian star is on his decline and Odegaard would likely play many minutes to give Modric some rest, at the same time it’s also clear that coach Zinedine Zidane would likely trust Modric in big games, as he’s done many times this season.
Modric is under contract until the summer of 2021, although he could be tempted to leave the club if he feels that it’s time to part ways with Real Madrid. MARCA reports that Milan and Inter Miami FC want to sign the Croatian midfielder. If he’s still going to be a relevant player in Zidane’s plans, he will almost surely stay in Madrid, considering that this is the last big contract of his career.
Having Odegaard in the squad for the 2020-2021 season would be huge for Real Madrid, though. He can play in the midfield and also on the right wing. However, an extra year of being an undisputed starter for Real Sociedad could also help his development.
It’s time for Madrid, Odegaard and Modric to make a decision about their future.
