Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon, currently playing for Sevilla on a one-year loan deal, talked to Spanish newspaper ABC about his future and also about his plans for next season.
“Stay in Sevilla? I know what [Sevilla sporting director] Monchi thinks. I also love my teammates, the fans and the city of Sevilla. However, when the season is over I will have to go back to Madrid and then I don’t know what will happen after that,” said the young left-back.
Reguilon’s future could depend on Marcelo’s decision. If the legendary left-back ends up staying in Madrid past next summer, Los Blancos would already two left-backs in Marcelo himself and Mendy, so there would be no room for Reguilon. However, Reguilon could have a chance at competing for the starting spot with Mendy if Marcelo decides to leave.
Reguilon also shared his thoughts on the current situation. His loan deal with Sevilla expires on June 30th but he is sure about being able to end the season with the Andalusian club if La Liga decides to resume their schedule during the summer.
“I want to end the season with Sevilla, win the Europa League, earn a spot in the Champions League and do our best. If I start the season with Sevilla I would love to end it with them, no matter if it’s on July 10th, August 10th or whenever. It’s true that the contract expires on June 30th, but I’m sure that agreements will be reached so that there are no issues. Every player has his own circumstances, but I will try my best to end the season with Sevilla. I’m calm about this though, every club has players on loan and they will have to reach an agreement,” concluded Reguilon.
The young defender has completed solid performances for Sevilla and looks to be a solid player for Real Madrid to have on the squad in the near future.
