Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez talked to his brother and former Real Madrid academy player Alex Fernandez through an Instagram Live and explained that he believes the 2019-2020 season could still be completed.
“I’m sure that we will play, there are a lot of people working and football is our job. I’m sure that we will play football this season unless something strange happens during the next few days,” he said.
The situation with the Coronavirus pandemic has improved a lot in Spain during the last few days and the government is already thinking about resuming some sectors of the economy. Reports from the Spanish press suggest that football teams could be back in training by May 11th.
Nacho also talked about his future. The defender has not been a relevant player for a while but seems to be satisfied with his role and wants to retire as a Madrid player.
“I’ve got two years left in my contract and I would like to retire as a Real Madrid player because this has always been my club. Every single summer I see some rumors about my future and I don’t know what will happen. I always talk to my coach and I respect the decision from him and the club and we always reach an agreement. I don’t know what will happen,” said Nacho.
The Spanish defender gives Zidane the ability to rotate multiple positions, as he can play as a central defender and also as a fullback on both flanks. That’s valuable and one of the main reasons why the French coach will likely want to keep him around.
