Fabio Capello provided his analysis for Italian outlet, La Gazzetta dello Sport, on the situation in Spanish football during the coronavirus. The former Real Madrid manager felt that his former employers would be in the best position to weather the storm. “It seems to me that in Spain, the only team that will not be destroyed economically in this pandemic is Real Madrid. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are going to suffer a lot,” Capello said.
The Italian manager also commented on the impact the virus will have on the transfer market. “The market will be revolutionized. Absurd amounts of money were utilized for signings. We will return to a more reasonable level. Intelligent managers will be necessary to fix the system. Egoism can be fatal,” he commented.
Lastly, Capello had words of advice for Lautaro Martinez, Inter Milan’s heavily sought after striker. “If it were me, I would remain at Inter. At Barcelona, he would be a substitute,” Capello concluded.
The economic fall-out from the coronavirus pandemic will be seen in the coming months and years. Real Madrid’s capital expenditures on prestige's youth talents may reap the best benefits both from a sporting and economic stand point.
