Real Madrid becomes first football club to join United Nations’ Global Impact
According to a press release from Real Madrid, they club has become the first football organization to join the United Nations’ Global Impact initiative. The initiative is an agreement to adopt 10 commitments to support ethical business practices interanationally.
This means that the club will continue to uphold tenets such as human and labor rights, environmental standards and anti-corruption practices. The club has also agreed to follow the goals set by the UN by aligning all of their operations in pursuit of them.
Rivaldo says Haaland is “showing enough quality for Spanish football”
Brazilian football legend Rivaldo wrote a guest column for Betfair.com where he commented on the rumors of Erling Haaland potentially transferring to Spain.
“He [Haaland] is already a great player, but at 19 he could be even better in the future and become one of the best attackers in the world.”
“Some people are already comparing Haaland’s style to Ronaldo Nazario and there might be some similarities as Haaland, as he’s quick, fearless and scores a lot, but it’s too early to start thinking he will be Ronaldo’s successor.”
“Real Madrid seems to be Haaland’s preferred destination in the summer and he is showing enough quality to prosper in Spanish football. His ruthlessness in front of goal is putting him in a privileged situation and Barcelona could be a good alternative option for him. He will be a great signing for the club that manages to complete his transfer.”
There’s no doubt the 19-year-old Norwegian is taking the footballing world by storm this season. He has shown how dynamic of a striker he can be, combining both size and speed. He looks like he will be a phenomenal talent and one of the next top world strikers.
I find myself in agreement with Rivaldo, it’s much to early to be comparing him to Ronaldo Nazario right now if people are really doing that. I also don’t believe we will see Haaland moving to Real Madrid this summer.
I subscribe much more to the timeline that we see Kylian Mbappe in Summer 2021 and Haaland in Summer 2022, if Real are still interested. I think it’s important for Haaland to continue working on his impressive skillset and logging first team minutes with a top German club like Borussia Dortmund.
Rivaldo also dedicated a section of the column to Gareth Bale and his departure rumors.
“I believe his career at Real Madrid is coming to an end, as his chances in the starting 11 will be limited, especially with potential new arrivals this summer. The club no longer trusts him to be a decisive player after some internal problems in the last few years.”
Rivaldo believes this is “highly probable”, but he can foresee the Welshman moving to a Premier League club like Newcastle for the next couple of seasons. Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, has already said that the MLS rumors are “rubbish.”
Tebas says LaLiga is listening to health officials for return, but reports claim they still aim for June 12
LaLiga president took to Twitter recently to address the return of the league and how they are looking to make it happen.
“The clubs, managers, players, referees of LaLiga....we are excited about the return, but the competition will only begin when the health authorities consider it possible ... the coordination work with the National Sports Council (CSD) and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is and will be key.”
According to a recent radio program from COPE, LaLiga is aiming for a June 12 restart to the season. They report that it will open with the Seville derby between Sevilla and Real Betis.
So, if this report is true, we will be seeing league play again in just under three weeks. Barring unforeseen delay, it seems this could be possible if LaLiga gets the approval from health officials who they are working with.
