Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez talked to the team’s TV channel and explained that coach Zinedine Zidane told him to stay in the club even after the defender had received some offers to leave and be a relevant player elsewhere.

“Everyone around him loves him. I personally had the chance to leave the team years ago but coach Zidane had trust in me. This player-coach relationship turned into a friendship, he supports us until the very end and what he’s done in the last few years is just glorious,” said Nacho.

The Spanish defender has never been a starter for Real Madrid and he hasn’t been getting many minutes since Los Blancos signed Militao. Still, he wants to stay in his lifelong club and is happy about the choices he’s made throughout his career.

“My past with this jersey has been perfect, I wouldn’t change a single thing. I’m so happy about being here, I just wouldn’t trade it for anything and I hope I can stay here for many years. This is the club of my life, I’ve been here since I was just a kid,” concluded Nacho.

He is now 30 years old and his versatility will likely allow him to stay in the club, given that he can play as a center-back and also in both sides of the team’s defensive line. While he’s never been a star, role players like Nacho are always needed.
