Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz rejoined the squad in training this Friday after missing the last two weeks with a small foot injury. Mariano completed Friday’s session just fine and will use the next two weeks to improve his form and conditioning ahead of what will be a very busy schedule for Madrid.

Mariano’s absence meant that Los Blancos were without a backup for Karim Benzema, considering that Jovic was also injured. His return adds a lot of depth for that spot and Mariano had already become the team’s second striker before the season was postponed, so it’s likely that he gets some minutes to keep Benzema’s legs as fresh as possible.

Mariano has a very fine opportunity to prove that he deserves minutes ahead of Jovic, something which could ultimately change Madrid’s plans for the upcoming transfer window. Initially, Los Blancos wanted to sell Mariano and keep Jovic, but the situation could now be different if Mariano proves to be a reliable backup.
