Sergio Ramos’ brother and agent Rene Ramos has talked to Radio Marca, where he discussed the rumors about the future of Real Madrid’s captain. A report from AS suggested that Ramos and Real Madrid were ready to sign a contract which would expire in 2022.

“Football is unpredictable but there’s good will from both parts. I hope he retires as a Real Madrid player, that’s what he wants and I have to believe that’s what the club wants as well. As of now we haven’t talked with them but there’s no reason to panic, we can start those conversations when the club sees it fit,” said Rene Ramos.

Rene was quoted last week saying that they would try their best to stay in the club until the new Estadio Santiago Bernabeu is done, but he wanted to clarify those comments.

“My words were a bit misunderstood, I didn’t mean it in a way that he would stay in the club no matter the quality of his performances. We say that in Andalucia and what I meant was that he would stay in the club for as long as the club and himself think that he’s a Real Madrid caliber player,” explained Ramos.

Sergio Ramos’ current contract with Real Madrid expires in 2021 but it seems clear that both parts will end up reaching an agreement to extend that deal given that he is still an undisputed starter for Zinedine Zidane and one of the world’s best center backs, no matter his age.
