Borussia Dortmund director of football Michael Zorc explained that the German club will try to keep Real Madrid right-back Achraf Hakimi for another season, although the player is set to return to the Spanish capital in the summer and then at least complete the pre-season stage with Los Blancos.

“The situation with Achraf’s contract is very clear and he will return to Real Madrid for the moment. However, we’re trying to make sure that he can play with us next season, but it’s too early to discuss that right now,” said Zorc.

Achraf wants minutes as a starter and Dortmund can definitely promise him that, while he would most certainly be a backup for Dani Carvajal in Real Madrid. However, another loan deal for Achraf could be problematic if he doesn’t sign an extension with Los Blancos. His current deal expires in 2022 and Madrid would need to make sure that he’s willing to extend that deal before they let him go on another loan.

Achraf definitely has the quality to be a part of Real Madrid’s squad next season but if he truly wants to start it will be tough for coach Zinedine Zidane to convince him of staying.
