Last night’s win against Valncia was a night to remember for Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio. Not only he made his return from ACL surgery 10 months after suffering that injury during the 2019 pre-season, he also scored on his very first touch of the ball. It was a beautiful goal too and one which all but sealed the win for Madrid.
Asensio talked to the press after the game and shared his feelings.
“I couldn’t wait to get back, it’s been months of hard work. It was emotional and so satisfying to be back out there. I’m thrilled to have been able to play, with the goal and the team win. The most important thing is we got the win and I feel in good shape heading into the closing stages of the season,” said Asensio.
Real Madrid earned three crucial points for their title bid against a quality Valencia side who didn’t make things easy for Los Blancos, even if the final score was 3-0. Asensio knows that the team will have to keep it up if they want to compete for La Liga.
“It was a great display all round. We started very well and then Valencia pushed up and created chances. In the second half we knew we had to push on and we finished the game brilliantly. We have nine finals to come, nine games we have to win and now we’ll focus on Real Sociedad, which is the next objective,” concluded the attacker.
Asensio seems to be ready to make an impact for Real Madrid in these last nine games and also in the Champions League. His ability to score and convert chances could be very valuable alongside Benzema and Hazard if coach Zidane finds a way to give him minutes so that he can build some more momentum and confidence.
