Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos scored his eighth goal of the 2019-2020 La Liga season last night with a beautiful free-kick against Mallorca. Ramos has scored three goals in four games played since the return of the competition and is clearly one of the main reasons why Los Blancos are now leading the table.
Club spokesman Emilio Butragueño praised the defender and talked about Ramos’ potential contract extension.
“All I can say about Ramos is that I admire him for what he shows and represents. He’s a determined player with leadership, heart, quality and commitment. His presence means a lot for our team but also for our opponents, he’s a great all around player and it will be very hard to find another player like him in many years to come,” said Butragueño.
Ramos’ current contract is set to expire in 2021 and reports from the Spanish press suggest that the club and the defender will reach an agreement to extend that deal until 2022.
It’s not surprising to see that Butragueño didn’t want to talk about this negotiation, though. He always shows a very cautious approach in front of the media and last night wasn’t different.
