Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema was the main star of Sunday’s away match against Espanyol. His backheel assist was one for the ages and one of those plays which will be written in Real Madrid’s history.
The French striker talked to the press after the game and reviewed the play.
“It was a good play but the most important thing is the goal that came after. Casemiro scores a good goal, we’re very happy. The backheel? That’s how I see football, I knew Casemiro was behind me,” said Benzema.
The attacker was asked about whether the team is paying attention to Barcelona’s games and results or not.
“Well, of course we look at what Barcelona do even if we’re only focused on our job. I won’t talk about Barcelona, but we’re in good form. We’re taking it one game at a time and each match is a Final for the Liga title,” he explained.
Real Madrid have won every single game since the return of the competition, becoming the only team in Spain to do it.
“We’re happy about our form and wanted to get the win. We came out very focused, earned the three points and now we can go home,” concluded Benzema.
The French attacker has been brilliant after the quarantine and was also one of the main reasons behind Madrid’s solid 2019-2020 Liga season before the pandemic. He’s been a key player for Zinedine Zidane and has a case to be considered Madrid’s MVP if Los Blancos win the title.
