Real Sociedad coach says Odegaard would be more ready to play for Real Madrid in 2021-22

Imanol Alguacil clearly wants to keep the Norwegian player for another season.

Real Sociedad coach Imanol Alguacil talked to Spanish radio station Cadena COPE and explained why he believes that Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard should stay in the Basque team for at least another season. The initial plan for Real Madrid was to allow Odegaard to complete his two-year loan deal with Real Sociedad but the Coronavirus pandemic could force Los Blancos to bring him back in the next transfer window.

First, Alguacil praised his current player.

“I’m not worried about it, there’s no question that he makes the difference, he’s a top player who’s given us a lot this year,” said the coach.

Then, he addressed Odegaard’s future.

“We realize that he’s extremely happy with us and also in the city. Considering how well the team is doing we’re all excited about finishing the season in style so that we can play big competitions next year, that could be huge. But we also have to consider that the kid wants to stay here, he’s happy here and he knows he’s grown and developed a lot this season so that he would be more ready to take the next step with one more year playing for us,” explained Alguacil.

While it would make sense for Real Madrid to bring Odegaard back, the Norwegian talent might not have a relevant role in the squad next season, so if he truly wants to be a starter it would be reasonable to let him play for Real Sociedad in the 2020-2021 season.
