Marca is reporting that fullback Kenti Robles rejected a contract extension from Atlético Madrid, as well as an offer from Manchester City, in favor of joining Real Madrid. Atlético were under the impression that she would eventually choose to stay, but Robles apparently waited until her contract expired before informing Atlético of her decision.
All we can say is that we love to see it.
This news comes off the back of a series of other Atléti departures, leaving fans frustrated as to the direction of what has been a very successful Primera Iberdrola team in recent times.
This should be just one of many high profile transfers that Real Madrid will make in the coming months, as they seek to rebuild into a title contender after having already let Esther Martín-Pozuelo, Patricia Carballo, Ana Valles, Marina Martín, Ainoa Campo, and Osinachi Ohale go.
The abrupt end to the league, thanks to COVID-19 and Tacón’s middling form, created an anti-climactic finish to their first season as Las Blancas, but the groundwork seems to be being laid in order for a better run at things next time.
