Real Madrid’s home game against Alaves should have been a manageable one, at least on paper. However, Los Blancos will be without Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal and Marcelo and that will force coach Zinedine Zidane to start with Lucas Vazquez as a right-back. Furthermore, while Militao, Varane and Mendy should all be reliable, they haven’t played together all that much this season and could struggle defensively, so it’s not the ideal situation for Madrid to be without three key defenders.

Luckily enough for Zidane and the coaching staff, Hazard will be back with the team and that ultimately allows them to play with a 4-4-2 formation which could protect the defensive line. Valverde’s presence on the right flank would be very useful for Lucas Vazquez, who is not a pure defender.

Alaves have been a very mediocre team since the return of La Liga and this is exactly why this game is a must win for Real Madrid.
