Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is set to return to the club and take a role as a consultant to president Florentino Perez, according to a report published today by MARCA. Casillas intended to run for president of the Spanish Football Federation but ended up changing his mind a few months ago.
Casillas left Real Madrid quite abruptly back in 2015. Real Madrid wanted to move on and the goalkeeper joined Porto, where he played until suffering a heart attack in May 2019. The Spanish goalkeeper is now 39 years old and has retired as a player.
His return to the club will be similar to the role Zinedine Zidane had before becoming Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant coach in 2013. All in all, that role shouldn’t be relevant right now, although it’s possible that this is the first step for Casillas to help the club in other areas in the future.
