And there you have it. The 2019/20 LaLiga season has (finally) come to an end. Real Madrid’s season began with a rough start, but, they managed a win and a draw over Barcelona, were in the fight for the title and after the three month break came back to win it all.
In their final game of the season they drew 2-2 with Leganés, dropping points for the first time in 10 games. See player ratings below.
Alphonse Areola—6.5: Positioned himself well throughout the entire match and kept the deficit as low as he could making some big saves. Unlucky not to get a clean sheet but the defence was questionable at times.
Lucas Vazquez—5: Off with his crosses into the box and often out of position. Lucky not to have a penalty called against him in the second half. Not a very convincing performance for me.
Eder Militão—6.5: Decent night from the Brazilian. Covered lots of ground when Ramos moved up top and did well to mark the opposition. Slipped in the second half trying to intercept Roger Assalé’s tying goal.
Sergio Ramos—7.5: Even in the last game of the campaign, Ramos is still rising to the occasion. Scored the first goal to bring the team up 1-0 and extend his personal tally. Highest pass completion rate (96 per cent) and intercepted a few balls to help the team gain momentum. Substituted at half.
Ferland Mendy—7: Used his speed as a threat and had strong runs into the box. Managed to combine well with Isco. Sometimes out of position but could track back when needed. Kept up his energy when defending against Leganés at the end of the match. Finished with 91 per cent pass completion, three dribbles, one aerial and one tackle.
Fede Valverde—6.75: Nice to see the Uruguayan back in the starting line up. Helped keep the midfield together and sometimes moved up to add an extra man on the right wing. Also finished with 91 per cent pass completion, three dribbles, one aerial and one tackle.
Casemiro—7: Another solid game. Not much else to say. You can count on a consistently good performance from the Brazilian when you need one. Two dribbles, one aerial and one tackle. Substituted after 61 minutes.
Isco—8.5: Man of the match for me. Assisted Ramos’ and Asensio’s goals plus three dribbles and two tackles. Linked up well with Mendy and acted as the creative outlet in the midfield. A very active game for the Spaniard.
Marco Asensio—6.5: Very quiet in the beginning as most of the game was down the left. Had to help Vazquez cover the right wing defensively. Sky rocketed a shot over the bar in the first half but made no mistake with his second opportunity. Substituted for Brahim.
Karim Benzema—7: Unfortunately the gap for the Pichichi was too big and the Frenchman finishes as the second-highest goal scorer in La Liga. Looked lively today but after the way he’s played all season there is not much else to ask of him so substituted after 61 minutes.
Vinicius Junior—6.5: A strong start but faded away as time went on. Made some runs down the left but while he did his best to attack, he didn’t get anything out of them. Brought back some energy late in the second half and showed his development in defensive duties. Four dribbles and three tackles.
Substitutions:
Nacho —6: Came on for Sergio Ramos at half. Did well when defending set pieces but couldn’t block Assalé’s tying goal. Won three aerials and two tackles. Nice to see him playing again.
Toni Kroos —6: Not much of an influence from the German tonight. Came on for Casemiro with 30 minutes left. Was dispossessed a few times but helped keep the midfield stable.
Brahim Diaz —6.5: Immediately tried to make an impact. His first 10 minutes on the pitch he had two or three good runs towards goal. Had a few chances to score and should have put them away. Given the fact that he’s only played in the league six times he did well.
Luka Jovic —5: Wish we could have seen more from Jovic tonight. Made a few good runs but couldn’t find enough space to take shots. Very, very, lucky not have a penalty called against him.
