Three Real Madrid players made La Liga’s Breakthrough Team of the 2019-2020 season for UEFA. Fede Valverde, Martin Odegaard and Takefusa Kubo completed solid performances all year long and managed to impress even though they lacked the experience in La Liga, earning relevant minutes in the midfield of their teams.
Valverde was the obvious choice here, considering that he was a key starter for Madrid before the Coronavirus pandemic hit Spain forcing La Liga to postpone the competition. Valverde always had potential, but what he did this season for Real Madrid was not easy to predict.
Odegaard was also brilliant for Real Sociedad, being the main reason why the Basque side fought for a spot in next year’s Champions League until the very last few weeks of the season. His knee injury affected his performances after the quarantine. Odegaard seems set to stay with Real Sociedad for another season, where he will try to put that injury behind him and prove that he can be a starter for Real Madrid in 2021.
It was a slow start of the season for Kubo. The Japanese wonder kid couldn’t get the minutes as a starter he wanted but still found a way to contribute off the bench. Finally, he became a key player for Mallorca and proved he’s ready to take it to the next level. Kubo is rumored to be on Real Sociedad’s radar for next season and it would be very exciting to have both Odegaard and Kubo playing together there.
Salisu, Ferran Torres or Ansu Fati are other names featuring in this Team of the Year.
