Real Madrid have decided to bring back Spanish right-back Alvaro Odriozola, according to a report from AS. Odriozola spent the second half of the 2019-2020 season on a loan deal with Bayern Munich, and while he hasn’t been a relevant player there, Madrid’s need for a backup right-back will allow him to stay in the Spanish capital next season.

Odriozola has never shown his true potential after Real Madrid decided to spend €30 million to sign him away from Real Sociedad. He’s often been a liability on defense but it’s also true that Odriozola is still 24 years old and could improve on that front. He’s a solid offensive player though, so the Spanish right-back could very well be an interesting asset in certain games next year.

Odriozola’s future was all but decided as soon as Real Madrid decided to sell Achraf Hakimi to Inter Milan. Los Blancos were always going to need a pure right-back to replace Carvajal when needed and Odriozola will be that man.
