Four Real Madrid players have been named among the 60 footballers who made the list to win the 2020 edition of the Golden Boy award, which selects the best U21 player in the world of football. Vinicius, Rodrygo, Reinier and Kubo have all been selected to compete for the award.

While Rodrygo and Vinicius could have a shot at the prize after their solid performances for Real Madrid this season, it definitely seems that Borussia Dortmund’s Jadeon Sancho and Erling Haaland are the two main favorites to win the award.

The history of the Golden Boy shows that it’s a fairly accurate indicator of a player’s potential, with the likes of Isco Alarcon, Kylian Mbappe, Joao Felix, Sergio Aguero, Lionel Messi, Raheem Sterling or Paul Pogba having won the award in the past.

While it’s unlikely that any of the four Real Madrid players in the list wins the Golden Boy ahead of Haaland or Sancho, it is also true that Los Blancos have found young talent in the market, so it will now be up to them to manage their minutes properly so that they can develop and reach their potential.
