According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio, Valencia have made an official bid to Real Madrid for Borja Mayoral. The deal would be for €15 million plus bonuses.
The 23-year-old was reportedly close to joining Lazio for €20 million a couple of weeks ago. Di Marzio claims that Valencia are trying to complete the deal quickly and Lazio will need to counter if they want his services.
Mayoral spent the last two seasons on loan with Levante. He scored eight goals in 34 appearances in La Liga this past season. He also put up two assists.
With the arrival of Luka Jovic last season, it was clear that Mayoral would not be in the immediate plans for Real Madrid. Even with Jovic’s hazy season the situation likely hasn’t changed much.
If the report does come to fruition, €15 million is a good amount of value for Mayoral. He came up through La Fábrica and seems to be valued by two of the bigger clubs in both Italy and Spain.
We’ll have to see whether Valencia or Lazio actually complete a transfer for him. The report does not say that Valencia’s offer has been accepted by Real, so there’s still developments to play out in this situation. Obviously it’s a bit strange for Valencia to make a bid like this given their reported poor financial situation.
