Julen Lopetegui was the coach who gave Sergio Reguilon his chance at Real Madrid. After impressing in the preseason in 2018, Lopetegui promoted Reguilon directly to the first team. He has always had the utmost faith in the young player and directly requested Regui’s services once announced as manager of Sevilla.
When asked about Sergio Reguilon’s future after the game, Lopetegui expressed his hope that the Real Madrid loanee would continue with Sevilla: “Reguilón has grown at a barbaric rate. He’s a much more complete player than when he first joined. Hopefully he can continue with us.”
Like his coach, the fullback was overcome with joy after the final whistle. He expressed as much to reporters after the match, “I am exploding with happiness. I want to celebrate this title!” he exclaimed.
There have been multiple teams across Europe interested in securing Reguilon services. Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Napoli have all been linked to the player. A decision on whether to retain, loan again, or sell outright by Real Madrid will be made in the coming weeks.
