Real Madrid’s Juvenil A defeated Red Bull Salzsburg this Saturday and clinched their presence in the Final of the 2020 edition of the UEFA Youth League. Madrid will face Benfica on Tuesday in what will be the first Youth League Final for Los Blancos. Raul talked to the press after the Semifinal and was visibly happy about this achievement.
“I’m happy, but only relatively happy, not satisfied, because Real Madrid are only satisfied when we win. We have to make sure our players recover because this will be our fourth game and only the third for them and these are tough games. I hope that with the work of everyone, the doctors and the support from the fans we can compete until the very end on Tuesday,” said Raul.
The club legend wanted to have a word for other youth teams from the Academy who didn’t find success in the European competition.
“We have to congratulate the kids, the fans and everyone who worked hard to be in this Final other years. We also remember past generations, many of them deserved to be in this game and we will represent them in the best possible way,” he said.
Raul spent the 2019-2020 season coaching Castilla and will stay in Real’s B team next season as well. He appears to be the main candidate to replace coach Zinedine Zidane when the Frenchman decides it’s time to leave, so it will be interesting to see Raul’s progress as a coach and whether or not he’s able to conquer the 2020 Youth League with his group of players.
