Mariano’s agent: “Nobody from Benfica has talked to Mariano”

The agent denies the alleged agreement between the clubs.

Mariano Diaz’s agent David Aranda has talked to the press about the rumors suggesting that the attacker has reached an agreement to join Benfica on loan next season. MARCA and AS reported this Friday that Real Madrid and the Portuguese club agreed to terms on that loan deal.

“Nobody from Benfica has talked to the player yet. If the clubs have reached an agreement it would be very strange because that is not how you convince a player of joining another club,” said Aranda.

The agent was critical of the reported deal:

“You can’t do business behind whoever you want to sign,” he added. However, he also said that Benfica would be an interesting option for Mariano.

“They’re an appealing club because they compete for titles and they tend to play Champions League football, but it will ultimately be Mariano Diaz’s final decision,” concluded Aranda.

Mariano reportedly wants to earn around €5 million with Benfica, but the Portuguese club is not willing to give him that kind of contract, so the deal could stall if Mariano is not keen on accepting a lower offer.
