Chelsea are interested in signing Real Madrid’s on loan left-back, Sergio Reguilon, according to Sky Sports News.
The left fullback position has been a problem spot for Frank Lampard with neither Emerson or Marcos Alonso convincing. It was believed that the London based club were interested in Alex Telles of FC Porto and Ben Chillwell of Leicester City, but the former is expected to move to PSG and the latter is pricing the club out of a move with an €80 million price tag. Given that the Blues are close to finalizing a near ~€100 million offer for Kai Havertz, Chelsea would need to look at cheaper alternatives for the left back position to comply with FFP thus pushing their interest of Reguilon.
Reports have suggested that Real Madrid may sell the full back for as little as €20 million. Yvan Lee Mee, Ferland Mendy’s agent, said it best last summer: “Contrary to popular belief, the left-back position is the most requested after that of a striker because they’re very difficult to find.” With quality left-back’s being a rare commodity and with a host of suitors, Madrid would be wise to increase the price if they truly are prepared to part ways with the talented La Fabrica graduate.
In a move that may signal Reguilon’s intentions this summer, the 23-year-old changed his representative to super agent Kia Joorbichian. The agent represents some of the biggest names in the game including Philippe Coutinho, Riyad Mahrez, and David Luiz. Despite an ageing Marcelo, Reguilon may not want to stay at Madrid and fight Ferland Mendy for a starting position when amble opportunities would be available to him elsewhere in Europe. Reguilon’s future will likely be one of the hot topics of the summer for Real Madrid and their fan base.
