Luka Jovic looks set to follow in the footsteps of Luka Modric and Martin Ødegaard by choosing to forgo international duty in favor of a full preseason in Madrid. According to a report from MARCA, the Serbian made the decision after learning that he would be forced to quarantine for 14 days upon his return to Spain, thus forcing him to lose the start of the league campaign.
Many in Madrid see this as an astute decision from the striker. After the off-field controversy from last season, Jovic is looking to start the 2020-2021 season on the right footing. Zidane has always said he has faith in the striker and now Jovic will give his manager the opportunity to prove it as he ensures his availability for any upcoming squad selections.
After a poor first season, rumors have circulated — namely AC Milan and Monaco — of a potential transfer away from Real Madrid. There is no guaranteeing the Serbian’s continuity, but all signs seem to point to the striker being granted another opportunity this season to prove he belongs at the capital club.
