Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric talked to British newspaper The Times and shared his point of view about the Gareth Bale’s transfer saga. Los Blancos want to part ways with the Welshman yet Bale seems decided about staying until the very end of his contract, no matter his role and minutes.

“We’ve played together for the last 12 years and it’s a tough situation both for Bale and the club. Bale needs to know what he wants to do, he’s a grown man and needs to decide what’s best for him. Is he happy here or does he want to try something else? For me, he’s still a great player who has a lot to offer to the world of football. It’s up to him, if he is hungry enough to keep going, I think he is. Whatever happens, he can still be an important player,” said Modric.

The veteran midfielder did an excellent job dealing with this question by making Bale responsible for his decision while still acknowledging him as a great football player.

Modric also talked about playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo during this past decade.

“Playing with him was amazing, we enjoyed seven amazing years together, won so many things with him on our team and even when you weren’t in the best form Cristiano could still win you the game with his attitude and his skills and quality. Everything was special about him, the way he worked hard on training and that’s why you can expect something special from him even when things aren’t going the right way,” he explained.

Modric was asked about Jose Mourinho, who signed him for Real Madrid during the last season he coached at the Spanish capital.

“I have a special affection for him because of everything he meant to me. He’s won things in Italy, England and Spain and I hope he can manage to do the same for Spurs. It’s a big deal for Tottenham to have someone like him, he wins everywhere. Even when people say ‘he didn’t win anything for United’ it’s not true, he did win the Europa League and other things with his quality. It’s unbelievable the way he prepares for every match, he gives you every small detail about the opposition and how to take advantage of their weaknesses,” said the midfielder.

Modric will enter the final season on his contract but Real Madrid are expected to offer him a new deal after his god performances for the team after the pandemic.
