Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has battled Barcelona’s Lionel Messi for more than a decade. Today, Ramos was asked about the reports saying that Messi wants out of Barça and shared his thoughts on the matter.
“This doesn’t concern us. He’s earned the right to decide his future, I don’t know if he’s doing it in the best possible way, but Spanish football, Barcelona and Real Madrid players —because we want to face the best— want him to stay. He makes La Liga better, his team is better with him and El Clasico is more beautiful with him. I have nothing else to say, he’s earned that right by himself. It’s not a pressing matter for us,” said Ramos.
The defender also talked about his own contract situation. His current deal is set to expire in 2021 but Real Madrid and Ramos should reach an agreement fairly soon.
“We have not talked about it and we are all calm. I never considered leaving Real Madrid and I don’t think there will be any issues,” added the defender.
Ramos led Madrid to their 34th Liga title this past season and he was instrumental, so it’s clear that the club will want to keep him around.
