Real Madrid’s plane to San Sebastian had a hydraulic system failure and had to change route according to multiple Spanish sources including Onda Cero, Cadena Cope, and MARCA. The plane landed in Victoria and the team took an 80 minute bus ride to San Sebastian. Zidane and the players will have lost two hours of preparation time for the game as there is no indication that the RFER will delay the match.

The most important factor is that no one was injured and the plane was able to land safely in Victoria. Now the squad will need to quickly re-frame their mental focus and use the trip delay as motivation rather than an excuse. If it’s any consolation for the team, the 80 minute bus ride from Victoria to San Sebastian was surely filled with the beautiful Basque topography.

The trip will be a return to familiar surroundings for Martin Odegaard. It’s his first game back for Real Madrid since returning from Real Sociedad yet it will be in the stadium where he played most of his matches last season, Reale Arena. He will be eager to get some minutes, despite his knee injury, in order to reaffirm why both clubs rate him so highly.
