Real Madrid visit Real Sociedad for their 2020-2021 season opener. Los Blancos will be defending the 34th Liga title they conquered just a few months ago with pretty much the same roster they had then, with the exception of Martin Odegaard, who played for Real Sociedad on loan last season.
The Norwegian talent was one of the few reasons why Real Sociedad played brilliant football and competed for a spot in the Champions League until the very last few weeks of the campaign. It will not be easy for them to replace the kind of talent Odegaard showcased, but they still have a quality squad.
On the other hand, Madrid will have a thin squad for this match, with Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard and Isco Alarcon all missing the game. That will likely mean that Rodrygo and Vinicius feature in the starting lineup alongside Benzema, given that Odegaard himself has only been training with the rest of the squad for a handful of training sessions.
It won’t be easy for Madrid to conquer yet another Liga title, but they have to try starting today. La Liga is back!
