Martin Ødegaard has tested positive for the coronavirus according to Spanish radio station, Onda Cero. Both Real Sociedad and Real Madrid had routine tests conducted after their match on Sunday and there was one positive result. Ødegaard trained with the team today, but is now at home and self-isolating.
There is a strong possibility of a false positive test. The same occurred with Thibaut Courtois while away with Belgium on international duty. Since Ødegaard trained with the team on Tuesday, the whole squad will have to undergo a new PCR test to see if there was a spread of the infection.
If Ødegaard is confirmed to have contracted the virus, he will miss the Real Betis and Real Valladolid matches. The Norwegian would become the 2nd Real Madrid player to contract the virus after Mariano Diaz tested positive in July. Ødegaard reportedly feels fine, but will have to await the results of his second test. The player’s health comes first and no risks will be taken with him, or with any of the squad nor staff.
