Real Madrid defender Marcelo featured in the squad list published by the club on Friday, but the Brazilian left-back didn’t make the trip to Sevilla to face Betis because of pain on his back, according to reports from the Spanish media.
Marcelo is Madrid’s backup left-back and was not expected to start over Ferland Mendy, but he could’ve been an interesting asset to have on the bench if Madrid were to need more creativity late in the game.
While this injury shouldn’t keep Marcelo out of the team for a long period of time, he might need to miss Wednesday’s home game against Valladolid as well. That will force Mend to stay healthy and avoid any kind of injury, given that he’s the only left-back available right now.
Real Madrid have not published a medical report on Marcelo and will not be expected to do so unless the tests reveal a serious injury.
