After spending pre-season with the first team before completing an excellent campaign with Castilla as captain last season, Javi Hernández has now finalised a move to second division side Leganés. The recently relegated La Liga side have paid around €500,000 for his services - with Real Madrid retaining 50% of his rights for the future. The versatile defender signed a four year contract with the Madrid based team. Javi’s actual value is far higher than half a million euros, but with his time being up with Castilla, and only one year left on his contract - this deal was a realistic compromise.
Towards the end of last season, Javi spend a considerable amount of time with the Real Madrid first team, making the majority of match-day squads for that final home stretch in La Liga. Unfortunately, he never managed to make it onto the pitch for his debut despite being very close at one point after Marcelo, Mendy and Nacho all looked doubtful due to injury. Hernández also already has vast experience in the second division on loan, after effortlessly breaking into Real Oviedo’s starting team and becoming a strong fan favourite during the 2018/19 season. This was after he was supposed to spend that loan deal solely with Oviedo’s B team. It would not have been beyond his abilities to attract and compete with a La Liga team, so with Leganés he should be looking to start from the off. He certainly is one to keep an eye out for in the future...
