Real Madrid midfielder Isco Alarcon is set to miss the team’s season opener against Real Sociedad on September 20th. Isco suffered a sprained ankle in training this week and will have to miss around 10 days with this injury, according to reports published on the Spanish press today. Isco already missed Tuesday’s training session this week and didn’t feature today either.
While Isco could probably rush the recovery process and be back in time if it were a win or die game for Madrid, it doesn’t make sense to risk a more serious injury in the season opener, even more so considering that Isco is not expected to be an undisputed starter for Zinedine Zidane.
Isco’s injury does increase Martin Odegaard’s chances of playing some minutes for the team, though. Without Isco, Odegaard would be the primary playmaker sitting on Madrid’s bench if Zidane needs more creativity during the game against Real Sociedad.
