Referee named for Spanish Supercup Semifinal between Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao

The Spanish Football Federation have appointed referee Juan Martinez Munuera as the man in charge of Thursday’s Spanish Supecup Semifinal between Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, which will be played in Malaga —21:00 CET—.

Martinez Munuera was the referee in the last El Clasico, which ended with a win for Madrid. He was also in charge of Real’s victory against Granada and the draw against Real Sociedad. All things considered, Martinez Munuera seems to be high on the Federation’s list and appears to be one of the best referees in Spain.

Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva will be the main referee taking care of the VAR, assisting Martinez Munuera if there are any controversial plays during the game.

The Semifinal between Madrid and Athletic Bilbao will be a one-game tie deciding which team advances to play the Final, which will take place next Sunday. Real Sociedad and Barcelona will be playing for the remaining spot in the decisive game.
