Hola Madridistas!
The Open Thread/Daily Merengue is a place where you can discuss anything and everything related to football. Feel free to discuss the topics presented here, or start your very own discussions! The Open thread will be posted every day by one of the mods: Valyrian Steel, Felipejack, YoSnail or Oscnar.
Los Blancos’ loss analyzed in detail.
Real Madrid lost to Athletic Club in the Supercopa semi-final. As usual, the game was detailed in: Immediate Reaction, Players Ratings and Three Questions and Three Answers articles. Don’t forget to check the podcast as well.
Zidane talks to the press about the loss and Hazard.
As covered in the article by Euan McTear, Zidane didn’t feel that the Super cup exit is a failure. He stated “Failure is not trying and not giving everything. But, we gave everything. Life is like this. You can’t always win, but we’ll try to win the next match.”
On Hazard the coach commented “Eden needs to get his confidence back a bit and have a good game and score a goal. It’s little by little. We know the player he is. We need to be patient. I know the fans want to see the best version of him, but there’s a need for patience. He wants to move forward. Today it wasn’t just about Eden, it was about everyone.”
The next game
Los Blancos’ next fixture is against Alcoyano for the Copa Del Rey (Round of 32) on Wednesday, Jan 20th at 21:00 CET. The players will have a week’s rest before this fixture. Surely there’ll be rotations but we never quite know what Zidane is thinking.
*Let's become Zidane for a day*.
Fellow Madridistas if you were Zidane even for a day what would you change about the team right now? It could be formation, tactics, personnel etc. Who would you drop to the bench, who would you start, which substitutions you'd make, anything is fair game. Go ahead and tell us in the comments.
