Real Madrid will not defend their 2020 Spanish Supercup title after losing 1-2 to Athletic Bilbao in the Semifinal this Thursday. Marco Asensio talked to the press and discussed the disappointing loss the game.
“They started very well and made it hard for us, especially at the beginning. We went behind and it was difficult. In the end we had chances to get back into it. We’re sad and upset, because we wanted to reach the final, but that’s football and we must move on,” said Asensio, trying not to make a big deal after the defeat.
The attacker also explained that the team will focus on their next goals. Los Blancos have a four-point deficit to Atletico de Madrid in La Liga and Simeone’s team have two games at hand, meaning that their lead could reach 10 points.
“We’re angry and upset that we couldn’t get to the final, but we now have other goals and have to focus on them. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves and we have to focus on what’s next,” insisted Asensio.
Real Madrid’s next game will take place next Wednesday against Alcoyano in the first leg of the Copa del Rey’s Round of 32.
