Martin Ødegaard could move to Real Sociedad on loan with an option to buy, according to Donostia-San Sebastian based Cadena Ser Gipuzkoa.

Since the announcement that Martin Ødegaard has asked to leave Real Madrid, the principal suitor has been Real Sociedad. Ødegaard exploded at San Sebastian last season and was arguably one of the best players in La Liga for the first half of the 2019/2020 season. Since returning to Real Madrid injuries and lack of continuity have left the Norwegian feeling disenchanted with life in the capital. A move looks on the cards and both clubs have already started discussions.

The latest report from Cadena Ser Gipuzkoa. suggests that the two clubs are now entertaining the idea of an option to buy at the end of the loan. If Real Madrid do not then retain their own buy-back option, this could turn out to be a huge mistake form the club. Though, could the club be sending a message to other youngsters that if you do not want to stay and fight then you are free to leave?

More clarity around Ødegaard’s future should appear in the next few days. Rumors of interest form Sevilla and Bundesliga clubs have also been reported. Either way, the club must decide if they see Ødegaard with a long-term future at the club or if they see him as an expendable player.
