Real Madrid Femenino were set to take on EDF Logroño in the Ciudad Real Madrid at 13:00 CET (7:00 am EST). The lineups were released and everything seemed to be going as planned. But the players didn't come onto the pitch when the match was supposed to start.
There was a lot of confusion and, for a time, even those working at Real Madrid TV were unaware of what was going on. It soon became clear that the match would not take place.
There were conversations between both technical staffs and the match was ultimately suspended due to the possibility of an EDF Logroño player testing positive for COVID-19 prior to kickoff.
This is Las Blancas’ second consecutive suspended match. The first was canceled because of the weather in Spain made it unsafe to travel. Real Madrid Femenino’s next match is scheduled for Jan. 27 against Santa Teresa in the Ciudad Real Madrid.
UPDATE: It’s now clear that the game was suspended due to the possibility of a player being COVID-positive. The test has returned negative and it is unclear whether the two teams will look to play later today, tomorrow, or some other time in the future.
El Test PCR realizado al miembro de la expedición del EDF Logroño ha dado NEGATIVO.
