Real Madrid wonder kid Takefusa Kubo is on the verge of cancelling his current loan deal with Villarreal to join another club where he can get more minutes, according to Villarreal coach Unai Emery. Kubo didn’t even make the squad list for Saturday’s match against Levante, so Emery was asked about the matter and delivered a very clear answer.
“I talked with Kubo a few days ago and asked him about the reports, so that he could tell me if he wants to stay or lave the club. He confirmed that he wants out because he’s not playing as much as he’d like. We never said we wanted him out, and now I’m only thinking about the players who are focused on Villarreal. He’s attitude has been good and we he’s been focused on Villarreal he’s helped our team. He still lacks some things but he has the potential to grow and with patience, experience and minutes he’ll do so. But he believes that in his current situation he needs more minutes,” said Emery.
Kubo is right. He’s 19 years old and it would be very important for him to be a starter elsewhere. Villarreal was a good fit for him in terms of playing style, but Emery’s resume with young players and the competition Kubo would face for the starting spot had some analysts worried about this loan deal last summer.
Now, it seems that Kubo is very close to joining Getafe on another loan deal until the end of the season, although the clubs could include a clause for the 2021-2022 campaign as well.
