Villarreal center-back Pau Torres is on Real Madrid’s radar to upgrade the defensive line, according to a report published today on MARCA. While Madrid seem to be closing in on the signing of David Alaba as a free agent, Torres’ performances so far this season have made him a candidate to join Real in the future, per that same report.
Torres, who is 23 years old, has a €50 million release clause on his contract with Villarreal, a somewhat expensive price in the current financial context following the Coronavirus pandemic. Still, Nacho Fernandez and Sergio Ramos are not getting any younger —the latter still has to sign an extension— and Militao’s performances indicate that his ceiling might not be as high as initially expected, so Real Madrid could still need to consider more signings for the defensive line in the near future.
Other clubs like Arsenal are interested in Pau Torres and if he keeps performing the way he has this season, Real Madrid would be facing strong competition if they want to sign the Spanish defender.
For the moment, it’s now time for Madrid’s office to keep close attention to Torres and see if he truly has the potential to be a starter in the Spanish capital for many years to come.
