Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy rejoined the rest of the squad in training this Thursday. Mendy has recovered from the lower leg injury he picked up in the final third of the 2020-2021 season and also from a muscle injury he suffered right ahead of Madrid’s past game against Celta de Vigo, when he was expected to make the squad list.
Mendy will keep working the next two days trying to be ready for Madrid’s match against Espanyol, but his presence in Ancelotti’s starting lineup is extremely unlikely given the fact that he hasn’t played a single football game since May 5th.
The French defender will need to improve his form and conditioning before being able to return to the starting lineup. Assuming he’s able to make the kind of impact he made during his first two seasons in Madrid, his return is great news for Real Madrid, who have been struggling a lot on the flanks this season.
