Real Madrid have decided to put attacker Marco Asensio on the transfer block, according to a report published on Spanish newspaper ABC. Asensio’s contract with Real Madrid expires in the summer of 2023 and Los Blancos will have to sell him soon if they don’t want him to leave as a free agent two years from now.
Asensio has not been the player he was projected to be ever since he suffered a devastating knee injury on July 2019. Now, he’s struggling to find minutes and even though coach Carlo Ancelotti has tried to find him a role as a central midfielder, it’s clear that it won’t be easy for him to make an impact this year.
That’s the main reason why Asensio is considering a departure from Madrid. He received interest from Juventus this past summer but decided to stay in Madrid. Now, Los Blancos could even explore the possibility of selling Asensio this winter knowing that his value in the summer of 2022 will be significantly lower, given that he would only have one year left in his contract.
All things considered, the fact that Asensio might never be a key starter for Real Madrid is becoming more and more clear. Unless he can pick it up and prove that he belongs, selling him before his current contract expires will make sense, even this winter.
