Real Madrid defenders Ferland Mendy and Marcelo have rejoined the squad in training this week as they look forward to being available when Los Blancos face Shakhtar Donestk in the Champions League next week.
Madrid have missed their two left-backs all season long, so Mendy and Marcelo’s return should definitely help the squad going forward. Ancelotti has been forced to start either Miguel Gutierrez —who has been a liability defensively— or Nacho on that flank. Mendy’s presence would be extremely valuable for the team going forward, but he will definitely need some time to improve his conditioning and form after being injured since May 5th.
It’s not the same casa with Marcelo. The veteran left-back is not reliable and will not start in tough games unless it’s necessary, as he might even be behind Nacho, Miguel and Alaba in the rotation.
Carvajal is not training with the squad yet but he is close to making his return from injury as well.
