Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti talked to the club’s official TV channel and discussed the upcoming El Clasico against Barcelona, which will be played this Sunday at 16:15 CET. Ancelotti says his staff is focusing on the defensive side of the game in order to improve Madrid’s chances of winning not only El Clasico but also a trophy this season.

“For our team the most important thing is always defending properly with a low, a medium and also a high block. It’s easier for us to defend with a low block and then counterattack because of the personnel we have offensively, though. Defending the right way is the key to everything. We’ve won every game where we have not conceded. This team has no problem scoring goals, that’s why most of the time I focus on defense,” said Ancelotti.

The Italian coach said that his players are committed and engaged after what were three tough games before the past FIFA break.

“I like everyone’s attitude, I see that every day in training. The team is focused. We have not had a fantastic time but the players are engaged and with good focus and motivation to train every day. We played our best match against Shakhtar, we did really well and we have to continue like this,” he said.

Ancelotti concluded his interview by saying that Carvajal and Hazard might be back in time for the crucial match against Barça.

“We’re in a good moment physically and our players are fine after the Shakhtar game. I think Carvajal and Bale will be back. We have more than enough time to prepare El Clasico on a physical and tactical level. My players know what it is to play these games, so we face it calmly,” concluded the coach.
