Former and current players, managers, and legends of the game have come out full of praise for Karim Benzema in recent weeks. A campaign is building to try and promote the French striker for the coveted Balon d’Or award. Zinedine Zidane, Arsene Wenger, Leo Messi, and Luka Modric have all spoken about the Real Madrid’s strikers chances to win the award this year. As an analyst for CBS Sports, Thierry Henry gave his opinion when Salah’s name was mentioned as the best in the world.
“Is Salah the best player in the Premier League right now? Yes, that’s obvious,” Henry stated. “But if you compare the current form of the best players, I put Benzema at the top. I can’t ignore what he does for Real Madrid and with France in this moment.”
The former Arsenal legend went on to credit Mo Salah for the goals he scores, but recognized the work of both Benzema and Lewandowksi as a level above. “The goals that Salah is scoring at the moment are fantastic, but how can you forget Lewandowski and Benzema? I think Salah is not at that level yet, it is important to be at that level for both the club and in the national team,” he concluded.
Karim Benzema has a huge opportunity to raise his profile even further ahead of the voting with a big showing in El Clasico this weekend. If Benzema can perform at his best level and be decisive for Real Madrid at the Camp Nou, then his campaign for Balon d’Or will only continue to build momentum.
