Real Madrid’s visit to Espanyol will be their last match before the upcoming two-week FIFA break, which coach Carlo Ancelotti will use to recover some players like Dani Carvajal or Ferland Mendy.
Los Blancos need to bounce back from their discouraging performances against Villarreal and Sheriff Tiraspol and Espanyol is a good opportunity for them to do so. They just made their return to LaLiga this season and are currently sitting 15th in the table, although Madrid will need to pay attention defensively if they want to keep Castilla product Raul de Tomas under control.
It’s all a matter of finding their groove and confidence for Madrid now. Their next three games after the break won’t be easy —Athletic Bilbao, Shakhtar away and El Clasico at the Camp Nou— and Ancelotti’s men will need to perform during that stretch if they want to compete for trophies by the end of the season.
