Mariano Diaz got a surprising start on Real Madrid’s visit to face Elche this Saturday. The attacker completed a solid performance, assisting Vinicius for Madrid’s opening goal. Unfortunately for him, Mariano broke his nose during the last play of the game and will be out for a few days as he requires surgery to repair it. The striker himself revealed the news on his Instagram account.

“I couldn’t be happier for my season debut and the team’s win but unfortunately I suffered a broken nose after I landed badly on a play. I must have surgery and will be out for a few days. Now I’m looking forward to being back with my teammates. This is another obstacle on the way and another reason to keep fighting,” wrote Mariano.

Benzema will be expected to return to the lineup for Madrid’s next few games as he is healthy and only needed some rest against Elche, so Mariano will not need to rush his way back to the team.
