Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe talked to Radio Montecarlo (RMC) and explained what happened during the 2021 summer transfer window, when he was rumored to be on his way to Real Madrid until PSG decided to reject any kind of negotiation for his transfer.
“I told the club I wanted to leave and from that point on I didn’t want to sign an extension, I wanted the club to find a deal for me so that the could have the money needed to sign a quality replacement,” said Mbappe.
The attacker is confirming the reports which suggested that he had informed the French club of his desire to leave Paris.
“I was always happy in this club the four years I’ve been here and I’m still happy. I told them soon enough so that the club could react, I wanted both parts to come out of this the right way to find a good deal, but I also told them that I would stay if that’s what they wanted,” he added.
Mbappe isn’t talking about what he will do in the upcoming months, but it seems clear that right now he is not keen on signing an extension.
“People said I rejected six or seven offers to extend my contract, that I didn’t want to talk with Leonardo, all lies. They told me that from that point on I had to talk to the president. Personally, I didn’t like the saying ‘he will come in the last week of August because I said I wanted to leave by the end of July. I am in no position to judge, but my stance was clear. I said I wanted to leave and I said it soon enough,” he concluded.
Mbappe’s contract with PSG expires in the summer of 2022 and everyone expects him to sign a contract with Real Madrid as soon as he’s allowed to on January 1st.
